There are several types of bugs on Android Auto, and while the easiest to fix are those only requiring a quick clear of the stored data, the worst ones are certainly those nobody can explain. Not even Google, that is.
One of them is the problem causing Amazon Music to play the wrong song on Android Auto, a glitch that soon will celebrate its first anniversary.
Discovered in January 2020, this inexplicable issue is yet to get a fix despite so many users actually encountering it in their cars.
There are plenty of drivers out there complaining of this problem, and many of them turned to this thread on Google’s support forums to provide feedback supposed to help the search giant deal with the whole thing eventually. However, the company hasn’t even acknowledged it, so it’s pretty clear you really shouldn’t hold your breath for a fix.
“I am having this issue in my 2020 Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro. I ask assistant to play ‘Let's Rock’ by the Black Keys on amazon music and she plays something that is not even close to that, every time. If I ask my Echo to play the same album, it plays fine every time,” one user explains in a summary of how Google Assistant behaves in the car and eventually plays the wrong song.
Originally, it was believed an Android Auto update caused the whole thing, but after so many updates shipped last year, the culprit is yet to be discovered.
And of course, the typical workarounds that involved things like replacing cables, reinstalling Android Auto, clearing the cache and the data, and resetting everything didn’t make any difference.
The issue happens in various car models and with several Android phones, including even the Google Pixel and Samsung’s high-end devices.
So, for the time being, while this bug is already one year old, nobody can tell for sure what’s happening. Google also seems to have a hard time figuring out how to deal with it, so if you too came across the same problem, head over to the forum link posted above to provide your feedback.
