Nissan presented at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit the Titan Warrior Concept, a bad-ass version of the Titan XD. Now, Nissan officials reveal that the company is thinking of putting the hardcore Titan Warrior against Ford’s F-150 Raptor, Ram Power Wagon or Toyota’s Tundra TRD Pro in the performance off-road pickup segment.
Nissan Design America is responsible for this new concept truck that pays tribute to Nissan’s heritage of off-road racing and adventuring. The team imagined how the original design could evolve to extreme levels, so they lifted the height nearly three inches and mounted 37-inch off-road tires on custom 18X9.5-inch aluminum-alloy wheels.
According to Rich Miller, senior manager of Nissan truck and SUV product planning, “This is more than a design exercise. We’re making a big commitment to the pickup segment with the new Titan, and we’re also looking at where else we might take it now. Many owners who take pickups off-road rely on aftermarket vendors to modify them. That business could be reclaimed by Nissan and its dealers.”
The Warrior comes with an enhanced grille and headlights, flared front and rear fenders, LED taillights, a quad-tipped exhaust system integrated into the rear bumper, carbon fiber rear cap spoiler and tailgate spoilers or roof-mounted LED off-road lights. The car is finished in a custom matte-gunmetal paint called “Thunder” with “Magma” orange and black accents.
The interior features seats covered in a carbon-colored high-strength seat fabric with “Magma” accents, a custom steering wheel milled from one block of aluminum, hot-and-cold drink containers integrated into the center console, robust auxiliary toggle switches incorporated into the center stack, and instrument panel-mounted extra gauges.
“We’ve never had a truck like this before. If we were to go ahead with it, we would also have to look at an engine enhancement for it,” Miller concluded.
Titan XD, the standard production model, hit the production line in December 2015 and is now reaching showrooms. The model is the second generation of the Titan, as it first appeared in 2003, Automotive News reports.
