The New Mercedes E-Klasse Looks Like a Hit

Mercedes Benz's new E-Klasse line got its manufacturer's hopes up, as dealerships in Germany were swamped over the last weekend with no less than 350,000 visitors who attended the premiere of the new E. And that's not all. Mercedes Benz reports that at the time of its introduction, the new E-Klasse sedan received some 50,000 orders, while test drives of the new line drew around 5,000 people to Mercedes Benz dealerships.

“We are very delighted that the new E-Class has gotten off to such a great start and that it has met with such great customer interest. For the E-Klasse is of special importance to Mercedes-Benz: it is and will remain the ‘heart’ of the Mercedes-Benz brand and expresses its core values in an exemplary manner. The new E-Klasse sedan will once again set new standards for safety, comfort, and economy in the upper-range segment,” gloated Klaus Maier, executive vice president sales and marketing Mercedes-Benz Cars.

The new engines used on the E-Klasse is part of the company's new strategy of substituting large-displacement, non-turbocharged engines for turbocharged powerplants with a lower displacement.

Various assistance systems will be available to customers, including new developments from Mercedes-Benz such as Lane Keeping Assist, Speed Limit Assist and Night View Assist Plus. Long distance driving comfort is insured by a number of new features, including intelligent body-systems with up to 30 percent greater rigidity, improved seats, and an all-new chassis whose shock absorbers automatically adapt to the driving situation.

If it maintains the success of its 211 series predecessor, which sold 1.5 million sedans and station wagons in six years, the new E-Klasse may have a big impact on the company's ability to exit the current economic crisis.
