The flagship of Jaguar is equipped with an all aluminum chassis that is lighter than its steel counterparts and improves fuel economy. This innovation isn't new, neither is the styling, because Jaguar say that a good car doesn't need a new body, so ever since they dropped out on the 1986 XJ, the car has been looking virtually identical for the past 4 generations.
They say that they made a revised front-end design, new side power vents, rear aero spoiler, full width chrome 'signature blade' and new rear bumper introduced in 08, but if they struggled to do all this, why not make it look different?
Where this new model shines is standard equipment: satellite navigation, front and rear parking aids, Bi-xenon headlamps with headlamp washers, bright mesh lower grille and side vents. All of these gizmos are now standard on all models. The seats have been slightly revised so that they offer more comfort and support and the ones in the front are heated as standard.
Standard safety features include Computer Active Technology Suspension, Advanced Restraint Technology System, Automatic Speed Limiter, while the Tyre Pressure Monitoring System is optional. A standard Bluetooth connectivity pack allows the occupants to pair up to 5 phones at once to the in-car telephone system.
What Jaguar have done is that they left a classic alive and that is what Ford should have done with its Mustang models. Even though the Jag is 30 years old, it still looks crisp, fresh and sporty.
