Volkswagen is celebrating the launch of its brand new Golf GTI in a very cool way. Instead of doing the usual boring videos, they took the pride of German engineering to the Las Vegas strip and allowed it to strut its stuff.
This "Geneva Motor Show Film" shows the new 220 horsepower hot hatch strutting its stuff to the sound of Frank Sinatra's "MY WAY". If you listen to the clip carefully, VW is basically saying the GTI is is the daddy of all hot hatches, the car everybody else wants to build.
But with only 220 PS at its disposal, the GTI is down on power compared to the 250 PS Focus ST, the 265 PS Megane RS and the 280 PS Opel Astra OPC.
To preserve the iconic GTI mantle intact, Volkswagen has for the first time also created a hot version called the GTI Performance, which will be offered with lighter body panels and an additional 10 PS for a grand total of 230.
Of course, anybody who's ever driven a GTI will tell you it's all the car you need, more refined and economical than its rivals. You might think those are not hot hatch characteristics, but the thousands of people who but Golf GTIs would beg to differ.
