A brand new set of spyshots coming directly from China have just revealed the brand new Chevrolet Optra, a compact sedan that scheduled to enter key developing markets in the Middle East and South America this year.
Nothing more than a Baojun 630 with a few Chevrolet bow ties slapped to its body, the new Optra will also replace the aging Chevrolet Lacetti in India, according to China Car Times. And since the Baojun 630 will also be offered as a hatchback, a Chevrolet-badged version of it is also expected to be launched.
Little is known about the vehicle, but our source claims it will be underpinned by the same platform used for the Buick Excelle, while motivation will be provided by a 1.5-liter engine connected to either a six-speed automatic or a five-speed manual.
The Optra nameplate was initially introduced in 2004, when the Chevrolet Lacetti was launched in markets such as India, Canada and most Southeast Asia. Later, the vehicle was also sold in Mexico or Japan, the latter getting the wagon version via Suzuki. Built in eleven different countries, the Chevrolet Optra was also marketed as the Daewoo Nubira, Daewoo Gentra, Holden Viva or the Suzuki Forenza.
