The New Caddy Gets 4MOTION and DSG Systems

The Caddy and Caddy Maxi now come with 4MOTION and DSG dual clutch gearbox. Available immediately, the package aims to deliver better traction coupled with improved comfort thanks to easier shifting. Volkswagen hopes the new platform will put its vehicle at the top of the compact and urban delivery van segment.

Power for the new drivetrain comes from a TDi diesel engine that ensures decent torque. The 2.0-liter, four valve per cylinder turbo diesel engine generates 140 hp (103 kW), and develops its maximum torque of 320 Nm between 1,500 and 2,500 rpm. This Caddy accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in just 10.5 seconds and boasts a maximum speed of 183 km/h (114 mph). The DSG gearbox should be able to make the most of the torque, as the quicker shifting will make it easier to keep the engine in the rev band.

The new platform for the Caddy uses a permanent AWD coupled with a six speed double clutch gearbox. The fourth-generation, electronically controlled Haldex system ensures good traction for all four wheels, regardless of whether you are transporting cargo weighing as much as 700 kilograms (1543 lbs) or have a big load in tow through wet fields or other difficult off-road conditions.

The Caddy 2.0 TDI 4MOTION equipped with DSG is available immediately, with prices starting at EUR22,790 for the panel van, excluding VAT, or EUR29,113 for the Trendline, including VAT ($30,850 for the panel van and $39.565 for the Trendline).

This move follows the initial launch of the 4MOTION all-wheel-drive on the Caddy range two years ago. The AWD van has proven to be particularly popular in the alpine regions, with one in every four Caddy vans sold in Austria being equipped with 4MOTION.
