The Most Expensive Car Option Ever Is a Mulliner Tourbillon Breitling Watch for the Bentayga

Now that the Bentley Bentayga is all out in the open and available for you to check out in person at the Frankfurt Motor Show, it’s time to take an even closer look at it and what it’s offering.
The initial reaction we had when seeing it was of disappointment. Sure, it’s big and luxurious but it certainly doesn’t feel like it’s doing enough to amaze us. For example, even though it is as long as a Mulsanne, it doesn’t seem to offer the same ample legroom in the back for some reason.

Then there are the steering wheel buttons that certainly feel too close to what a Touareg is offering but maybe we’re just being jealous or envious of the British brand, right? Well, once we tell you what you can get inside it, you might disagree.

Hidden within the press release for their first ever SUV, there was a small gem that drew our attention. It said that customers could fit their cars with a highly rare timepiece that would sit right on the dash, between the air vents.

Now, we know that manufacturers have a tendency to use analog watches to make their models feel more premium but this is something else.

We’re talking about a Mulliner Tourbillion movement hidden inside a Breitling watch made exclusively for the Bentayga. If you’re a watch aficionado, you’ll know that this is one of the most complicated and expensive movements in the world, one that has a price tag few can actually afford.

As if the movement wasn’t enough, there’s more to it than what lies beneath. If you want one you can have your pick out of two housings, one made of rose gold and one made of white gold. There are also two choices for the watch’s face, having to pick between mother-of-pearl or black ebony in this regard. Either way you’ll be getting eight diamonds encrusted in the face, acting as indexes.

If you ever owned a timepiece with a similar mechanism, then you’ll probably know that unless you wind it, it will stop at one point. When worn around the wrist, your body’s natural movement will be making sure there’s enough power reserve in there to keep things going but what if it is fixed on the dash of a car?

Well, fear not as Bently designed a unique mechanism that winds the watch by performing complete rotations. You can check out how it works in the video below, courtesy of Chris Harris.

And now we arrive at the most important bit: the price. No official number was provided yet, but we do have a clue about how much you’d have to spend on it.

Bentley and Breitling did work together on other occasions and using a different Tourbillon movement they released a wristwatch priced at $175,000 not long ago. However, that watch lacked the diamonds and solid gold casing this one has and therefore, the rumors once again seem to be right in assuming this one will cost more and closer to $200,000. Considering the Bentayga’s starting price is around $250,000 that’s an immense sum for an optional feature and definitely a worthy contender for the title of the world’s most expensive one too.
