The Math Behind the 2013 MotoGP Title

It's time to put things in a very simple way ahead of the final MotoGP race of 2013, the Gran Premio Generali de la Comunitat Valenciana.

With a 13- point lead over the reigning champion, Marc Marquez' end-season race is not exactly an easy one, just like we reported earlier in an Autoevolution editorial.

He will automatically win the title in case Jorge Lorenzo does not finish in the top four positions, one of the rather unlikely scenarios, to be honest.

In case Lorenzo wins the race and the rookie is 4th, the latter wins the title. The same thing happens in case the Mallorcan finishes in the second position and Marquez is eighth.

If Jorge Lorenzo finished third at Valencia, Marquez could claw the title with a 12th place. Finally, is the Cobra finishes fourth on the Ricardo Tormo asphalt, Marquez only needs a 15th -position placement to become the youngest rookie champion ever.

Have your beers close this weekend as the 2013 MotoGP season will end in a glorious way the likes of which we haven't seen for quite a long time.
