The Luxury Large Glass-Paneled Train Has Enzo Ferrari’s Designer Vision

You’d think luxury on wheels usually goes for the car-enthusiasts out there, but the Japanese beg to differ. After experiencing a great success with Japan’s first sleeper train, designed solely for tourism, East Japan Railway Company is set to begin a deluxe sleeper train service in spring 2017. Featuring cars decorated like an upscale hotel, with glass-walled observation spaces, the train was pictured by the legendary designer Ken Okuyama.

You see what competition does to luxury train companies? They get better and better. Wait, that sounds only normal. Well, it does if you actually afford ever traveling with these sort of trains.

We wrote about the 200 mph sleeper train with an open-air deck that will run on the track starting with the spring of 2017. You remember, it’s that crazy futuristic luxury train that allows passengers staying in the rear to breathe in the fresh air. And that is while the train is running with about the same speed you’d drive your Ferrari in Germany.

Now, the East Japan Railway Company decided it’s time for them to make their move into luxury, out-of-this world trains so they decided to design an even better one. And all this competition started after JR Kyushu’s Nanatsuboshi (Seven Stars) train, operated by Kyushu Railway Company first went on the tracks, last year in October.

According to Asahi, the train will have 10 cars, which will be colored in champagne gold and accommodate up to 34 passengers. The interior of the train cars will be decorated like a five-star hotel, with glass-walled observation spaces on both ends of the train. The deluxe suite car will have two rooms, each accommodating up to two guests.
