The Lotus C-01 Is Alive, Looks Sharp Photographed on the Street

Do you remember the utterly exclusivist and extravagant Lotus C-01, world-renowned designer Daniel Simon showed in early 2014? Well, some believed that the C-01 was nothing more than a concept that would never make it in production, but here are some pictures to prove them wrong.

The Lotus C-01 is in fact alive and kicking, and the one caught rolling down the street has serial number 005 of the 100 Lotus-branded bikes intended to be produced.

With a price tag that is said to read around €100,000 ($111,000), the Lotus C-01 is definitely not going to skyrocket into popularity, at least not among common fellows like us. Still, rich guys who like artsy motorbikes will certainly be in for bringing one home or adding it to their collections.

Underneath the sleek bodywork, the Lotus C-01 is as evil as it gets, most likely surpassing the expectations of unsuspecting riders. The KTM mill packs 1195cc in a 75-degree liquid-cooled v-twin configuration, producing 200 horsepower and sending them to the road by means of a 6-speed transmission and chain drive.

Make no mistake, regardless of how tame the fluid shapes of the Lotus C-01 might appear, its heart is one of a track-engineered superbike, so those getting at the helm should do well and behave.

The low bars and the rearsets make riding the Lotus C-01 for a prolonged time a hard task, but we all know that touring was not the main purpose that drove Daniel Simon's creative process.

Basically, the Lotus C-01 doesn't want to force a change in the industry and makes no claims, whatsoever. It is simply above and beyond, a strong statement with a bold character, and even if we skip the price and reduced availability, a pure matter of love it or leave it.
