The Lexus LFA is Not Enough

The long-awaited Lexus LFA has inspired journalists and public’s automotive dreams ever since it was displayed for the first time in October 2009. That is stating the obvious.

A not-so-obvious piece of information is the fact that the $ 375,000 supercar‘s 500 units limited production isn’t enough to satisfy the demand registered by Lexus for the monster, as MotorAuthority reports.

On paper that seemed impossible. The LFA is powered by a 4.8 liter V10’s 552 horses, paced by a 6 speed sequential gearbox. This gives the supercar the ability to deal with the first hundred in 3.7 seconds and to keep fighting until it reaches 201 mph. This performance is very impressive but there are a lot of cars who offer it to you for less money. Like the also brand-new Mercedes SLS AMG and many others. We don’t have to resort to tricks like mentioning the corvette ZR-1, which could be criticized for being a “poor man’s supercar” and doesn’t belong here, to make the point.

But the real world is much more complex than that. People have egos, exclusivity is cherished, and here is where the LFA shines, despite the fact that Lexus isn’t a cool name in the supercar world. The LFA is praised for many thing among which we can find the way it is built and its limited production.

And the real world, as we all know, is tough. Just as the LFA’s specs are not even close to describing the real face of the car, having the money to buy it is just part of the equation if you want to be a future owner. According to The Wall Street Journal, each buyer will be carefully selected by the company before being given the right to own one of this insane vehicles.

So, if you want one and you were relying on the fact that you happen to have $ 375,000 to spare, think again. You have until March to buy one - or why not a few - Lexus, build up your references and place the order. Who knows? Maybe you’ll outscore one of those who are already on the list.

This is good news for the "average" automotive enthusiast too: Don't be unhappy because the LFA is your true dream but you might never afford it - your manager's boss' boss probably can't get one either.
