The Lectric XP 2.0 Is Foldable Urban E-Bike Packing a Bunch of Range for Just $1,000

Even though electric bicycles are becoming extremely popular these days, most come with a price tag that often discourages people from switching to electric. Luckily, today I found the Lectric XP 2.0, an e-bike that seems to offer a premium experience at a meager cost compared to its competitors.

Lectric is an American business created by two video game enthusiasts and friends, hence the XP part from the bike's name, a homage to the gaming term "experience points". The first Lectric bike, the LX, went into production in 2019, and soon enough, the company became very popular. The brand's focus is on affordability, foldability, and comfort.

Its most recent creation is the Lectric XP 2.0, upgraded with some tweaks from the first-generation model. There are two versions, the standard and the step-thru, but they have the same specs. Before we get into them, I want to point out that this model's base price is currently $1,000. Yes, you read that right; its price tag is the same amount you'd pay for a single upgrade on other high-end bikes. You'd probably expect it to sacrifice some essential features but let me tell you a bit more about it before you reach that conclusion.

The XP is destined for urban use; that's why they made it foldable. It weighs 64 lbs. (29 kg), battery included, so you won't break your back if you decide to hop on a bus or metro or if you need to carry it to your workplace. No more anxiety about someone stealing your ride if you leave it locked on the street; just fold it up and take it wherever you're going. When folded, its size is quite compact, measuring 37 x 18 x 28 inches (94 x 46 x 71 centimeters).

The range is not a problem with this e-bike, as the standard battery provides an assisted pedal range of 28+ miles (45+ km), though it will vary depending on weight load, terrain, weather, and other factors. Juicing up the battery will take about 4 to 6 hours.

Not only is it practical, but it also looks good. The frame's simple design goes hand in hand with the puncture-resistant 20" (51 centimeters) fat tires. Given that it also boasts an adjustable oil front fork suspension, these components work together to provide a smooth and pleasant ride even if you hit some potholes while riding (which will inevitably happen). Worry not; the e-bike can also tackle some light off-roading.

The power is put down through a 500W (850W+ peak) brushless geared rear hub with five pedal-assist levels. You also have an on/off switch that delivers pure power on demand, but if you choose to ride throttle only, you'll only be able to go for about 20 miles (32 km). It's unclear what torque or top speed you'll be able to achieve, but it's probably enough for most city-dwellers, just don't expect to be flying around the streets, as the bike is clearly not made for high-speed riding. Some people only focus on speed and acceleration capabilities, but stopping power is equally important, if not even more critical, for any vehicle. Rest assured, the 160mm (6 inches) mechanical brakes will keep you safe.

Riding on hills won't prove problematic as the XP has a 7-gear drivetrain that offers seamless shifting. Do you live in a rainy part of the world? The XP has an IP-65-rated build that ensures water and dust resistance. Oh, I almost forgot to mention, the XP comes with an LCD display, headlights, and taillights.

There are also some extra options available for the bike. One of the most important ones is the Long-Range battery that offers 20 more miles (32 km) of range for a modest $200. I recommend taking it, especially if you're a daily commuter. There's also a comfort package that offers a giant seat and a suspension seat post. The e-bike comes standard with a tail rack, but you can beef up your whip with a front rack and two baskets by opting for the cargo package. The upgrade might prove helpful, especially if you're a delivery driver.

Overall, if this setup isn't enough for its very low price tag of $1,000, then I don't know what is. Lectric has done a fantastic job with this model, combining looks and functionality into the stylish XP 2.0.
