The Latest iPhone Update Causes New CarPlay Problems

iOS 13.5.1 is now available for download for all supported iPhones, but unfortunately, the security improvements that Apple has already confirmed aren’t the only things included in this update.

Because as it turns out, the latest iPhone update also comes with one frustrating bug that’s breaking down CarPlay for some users.

While it’s important to emphasize that at this point this issue doesn’t appear to be very widespread, I’m seeing more than a handful of users complaining of an error when trying to connect their iPhones to their cars after updating to the new iOS version.

More specifically, these users are getting an “Accessory Not Supported” error after installing iOS 13.5.1, and as it typically happens in Apple’s walled garden, there’s not much to do at this point.

In most of the cases, the error appears to suggest that it’s all just a problem concerning the cable used to power CarPlay, but some of these users claim they’re actually setting up the connection using a genuine Apple cable that came in the box with the iPhone.

So no, it’s not a cable problem, and the whole thing happens with the exact same setup that was running correctly before the installation of iOS 13.5.1.

Someone on reddit suggests this might be a problem that’s limited to Honda car models and recommends unpairing the phone and the car, deleting both devices from their settings, and then restarting the phone and the car’s head unit to re-attempt the pairing.

While it’s not yet clear if this makes any difference, the good news is that not a lot of people are affected by this issue. I also tried to run CarPlay earlier today after installing iOS 13.5.1 on my iPhone 11 Pro and everything appears to be working just as expected. I also use the original genuine iPhone cable that was included in the box and no issue occurred.
