Since the 2014 MINI Cooper is bound to arrive in dealerships near you somewhere in early 2014, it was bound to see the production of the current model end sooner than later.
Above you’ll see a photo of the last MINI Cooper Mk2 ever to be made at the Oxford plant, after 7 years of production and 1,041,412 units sold worldwide. Since the plant and company were taken over by BMW in 2001 1,863,289 MINI Hatches were built in Oxford.
However, the plant’s production of all MINI Models reached an impressive 2.4 million vehicles since the BMW takeover, accounting for 14% of all cars built in the UK in 2012.
Whilst we do say goodbye to one of the most popular models in the British company’s history, we’re looking to the future with even more optimism. The new model will pick up where the old one left off and, with its new features and engines, might provide even better results for the BMW Group.
