You might’ve noticed in recent years that the Lebanon drift scene is getting bigger and bigger and that the country is actually a heaven for all car enthusiasts. Just last year we were showing you a talented driver going uphill in a modded E46 M3. Admittedly, he wasn't Lebanese but the event was hosted in the Middle Eastern country.
The competition hosted in this country are recognized around the world and the talent pool here is hard to compare to a lot of other places around the world even though the utter lack of safety measures put in place at these venues is downright disappointing and even dangerous for the crowds.
Not once has a driver slipped off the track and hit the spectators but that’s not the story of Bassam Zahalan. He was the Drift King of Lebanon and was on the way to represent his country at an international event held in Dubai when tragedy struck.
The guys from Electric Federal, who put the video below together, claim that he was shot in a vengeful act played out by a local influential businessman that suspected Bassam had an affair with his wife. However, the local police ruled his death as a suicide.
Rumors are pretty strong and vocal though, claiming that it’s all a cover up. Zahalan was found on the street, face down in two pools of blood, looking as if he was running from something the moment he was gunned down.
There are a couple of things that don’t add up about his death though, no matter what the police claims. First of all, the video below is a clear testimony as to how excited he was to represent his country in the event held in Dubai. It would appear he had no reason to commit suicide or risk participating in that show.
Furthermore, various people claim that he was found on the street, face down, in a pool of blood, his body position suggesting that he was running from something. Now, how could that be ruled as a suicide?
What's even more tragic is that Electric Federal's video wasn't even ready by the time the DK of Lebannon was dead. He never even got to see it!
All we’re left with are unanswered questions and this video that shows the beauty of drifting and how passion can shape people’s lives. Rest in peace Bassam!
