When the Raging Bull of Sant’Agata Bolognese published the sales for the first nine months of 2021, everyone was quick to notice the commercial success of the Urus. But as it’s often the case, the press release contains a piece of information that – as expected – went mostly unnoticed.
According to chief executive officer Stephan Winkelmann, “the Aventador Ultimae and Countach LPI 800-4 are already sold out.” These special editions mark the very end of the V12-engined supercar, which means that you can’t order a brand-new Aventador anymore. It’s also worthy of remembering the Ultimae is dubbed the “final production model” by the Italian automaker.

The swan song is offered in fixed-head coupe and roadster body styles that are capped at 350 and 250 units, respectively. The Countach-styled special edition is even rarer at 112 units, a figure inspired by the LP-112 internal project name of the wedge-shaped icon produced from 1974 through 1990.

As for the Aventador, the Italian automaker launched this fellow in February 2011 at the Geneva Motor Show under the LB834 codename as the replacement to the Murcielago. The Aventador also features a brand-new V12 engine, different from the long-lived V12 designed by Giotto Bizzarrini in the 1960s. Countless variants have been offered in this past decade, including the Veneno, Centenario, and the gorgeous Sian FKP 37.

Only available with two pedals, the Aventador isn’t nice to drive in stop-and-go traffic due to the automated manual’s jerkiness. Developed and supplied by Graziano, the Independent Shifting Rod transmission goes through clutches like there’s no tomorrow. Seriously, it’s pretty damn woeful in comparison to the dual-clutch box of the V10-engined Huracan.

On the upside, Lamborghini will make amends with the successor of the Aventador. In addition to a brand-new V12, Stephan Winkelmann has confirmed a completely new drivetrain, a new battery, everything is completely new. There’s nothing out of the Sian or the Aventador.”
