The i3 Will Provide 'Undiluted Driving Pleasure' According to BMW

It was 2007 when BMW first started working on the i3. Even back then, they new that in order to create a proper city-car for the future, they had to start from the ground up, always keeping in mind the purpose of their endeavor.

It's 2013 now and the day when the first car from the i Series will be launched is close. Most people wonder just how much of a BMW will the i3 be, and whether it will be worth the 3 Series price tag it will come out with.

According to BMW, yes. In a press release published this week, the Bavarian officials claimed that the result of all their hard work over the years is 'hallmark BMW driving pleasure in undiluted form, delivered with zero driving emissions and an engaging intensity unmatched by any electrically powered vehicle'.

The few test drives done with the i3 so far seem to agree with what they are saying. It seems like it wasn't all marketing when BMW said that it will revolutionize the EV segment with their new product.

How is this possible? The car has an unique architecture, built out of CFRP (Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polymer) that allowed them to use smaller batteries than thought of at first, thanks to the lightweight construction.

Furthermore, since the motor is positioned close to the rear axle offers unique performance characteristics for this type of drive system as well as providing unbeatable traction.

The car reaches 60 mph in 7 seconds, whilst the 50-75 mph (80-120 km/h) acceleration is done with in 4.9 seconds, all thanks to the new, highly efficient electric motor developed exclusively by BMW with the eDrive technology.
