The German El Camino: VW Jetta Pickup

In American, they call anything with a V8 a “nice car”. A small block engine that would be too big for a Mercedes S-Class is considered tiny, or at least that used to be the case.

Meanwhile in Europe, a “nice car” is something that has a diesel engine, is efficient and has navigation. The differences between these markets have shrunk over the years, but they never completely went away.

But what if you could make something that’s both American and European, a bit of economy and a big pickup bead to take the pigs to market on the weekend. How about a Volkswagen Jetta pickup.

The car was created by a company called Smyth Performance from Massachusetts, who says it can create these bad boys to order. The kit will be available as a DIY conversion, though we’d imagine you welders and plasma cutters for this one.

Mihnea's favorite cars have already been built, the so-called modern classics from the '80s and '90s. He also loves local car culture from all over the world, so don't be surprised to see him getting excited about weird Japanese imports, low-rider VWs out of Germany, replicas from Russia or LS swaps down in Florida.
