The virtual world is once again doing what it knows best, which is presenting itself as a better alternative to the real one. This time, the culprit is the new Mercedes-AMG C63 S Coupé.
Mercedes-AMG presented the coupé version of the C63 sports car this September in Frankfurt, but deliveries aren’t expected to start until next year. In other words, Mercedes showed us the candy, and then stashed it on the top shelf where we can’t reach it yet.

What it does offer us instead is the chance of driving the new model in the Forza Motorsport 6 video game, a racing simulator available on Microsoft’s Xbox One console. Even though it’s probably not as famous as the game it was designed to rival with - PlayStation’s Gran Turismo series - Forza Motorsport quickly established itself as one of the best driving games due to excellent use of physics and very realistic graphics.

And it’s precisely those graphics that make the following clip so enjoyable to watch. Mercedes-AMG asks us whether we can tell which is the real car and which scenes are taken from the game, but we won’t dignify that with an answer: of course we can, despite their blatant attempt at bamboozling our brains with the quick cuts from one to another. There are games that can brag with their life-like graphics, but you won’t find them on any of the gaming consoles.

But that doesn’t mean that seeing a digital Mercedes-AMG C63 S Coupé going sideways on a wet track doesn’t make us want to take that controller (or steering wheel, for the more fortunate ones) and have a go ourselves. After all, you can expect to find a very faithful representation of C63 S Coupé’s 510 hp. And that wonderful V8 bellow as well.

The Mercedes-AMG C63 S Coupé is available as the main centerpiece of an exclusive download package for the Forza Motorsport 6. Besides the new Benz, the game offers countless other cars to trash around 26 world-famous circuits in up to 24-player races. If that doesn’t sound enticing enough, then maybe Forza Motorsport 6’s wet-weather or nighttime racing will change your mind.
