The Ford Kuga Gets More Economy and Power

The Ford Kuga just got upgraded with more power and better fuel economy, but the downside is that they had to make two engines to achieve both. The first is a petrol-based 2.5-liter Duratec, 200PS, and the second is a diesel-based 2.0-liter TDCi 2WD.

Ford explains that they did this so that they could lower CO2 levels to please green tree huggers. The diesel outputs 159g/km CO2, while the petrol engine chucks out 244g/km CO2, which can be considered a gas guzzler.

The 2-liter diesel engine is known for its fuel efficiency as it offers 46.3 mpg on a combined cycle, while the petrol engine isn't that efficient, but makes up the difference by providing off road enthusiasts with sheer grunt. The latter averages 28.5 mpg on the combined cycle and a linear torque of 320Nm (between 1,600 and 4,000rpm). This 5 cylinder engine does 0 to 62 time in 8.2 seconds and is capable of a top speed of 129 mph when equipped with an automatic transmission.

The 4 cylinder diesel offers about 136 HP and can sprint to 62 in a bit over 10 seconds. This is about the same time it takes a Ford GT to reach 120 mph, so you could think it is a bit lazy. But the GT doesn't offer that much fuel economy. The Diesel Kuga struggles to reach that speed and unfortunately... it fails because it's limited to 113 mph.

Options include run-flat tires, rear- facing reversing camera, panorama glass roof and DAB radio, not to mention the option to choose between 2WD and 4WD models.

The Kuga is one of the most digestible soft roader based on looks alone because it is the only car that looks like an off roader, not like a pumped up estate.
