The first ever front-wheel-drive BMW will, most likely, be the 1 Series GT based on the Active Tourer Concept. Even though Bimmerpost is reporting that the car will be included in the 2 Series line-up, we’re rather reluctant to believing rumors like this.
BMW’s head of Sales and Marketing, Ian Robertson, might’ve let slip more than he meant to in a recent interview for Auto Express, concerning the new model.

His exact words were: “The Active Tourer will be the first front-wheel drive BMW, the first to use a three-cylinder engine and you'll see it at a motor show early next year.” Looking over the scheduled Motor Shows that will take place in Europe, next year, Geneva seems to be the winning bet, as it will be the first one of 2013.

Robertson also said that the prototype we’ve been spying on are actually very close to production, therefore a matter of a couple of months until we’ll be seeing it on the street.
