Even though the brand aficionados expressed obvious concern and, at times disgust, about a possible front-wheel drive model, BMW launched a new model that, according to them, is not for their oldest fans. No, the 2 Series Active Tourer is aiming at a completely new niche and plans to attract new customers to the brand. Now, it has an official launch film as well.
As we expected it, the video is showcasing all the advantages the car has over its brothers made under the same badge. It’s practical and it was developed aiming at a people that have an active life style, just like those pictured here.

Moving away from the marketing tricks employed by BMW to convince you to get one, the Active Tourer does have its pros and cons. Sure, it’s front-wheel drive but that’s completely fine, since nobody will ever take this thing to the track. Looking over the range of engines, it’s also pretty obvious why as well.

At the moment, depending on where you live, you can order out of a variety of models, the range-topping one being the 225i that comes fitted with a 2-liter 4-cylinder turbocharged engine making 231 HP and 350 Nm of torque.

Looking over the rest of the line-up you can have your pick out of two more models, the 218i that comes with a 1.5-liter 3-cylinder engine making 136 HP and 220 Nm of torque or the 218d model that is fitted with a 2-liter diesel plant making 150 HP and 330 Nm of torque. This is also the most frugal choice out there.

Excepting the 225i that comes exclusively with the ZF 8-speed auto gearbox, the other two models can be had with either a manual or automatic 6-speed unit. Order books are open with deliveries expected to start this autumn.
