The First Ever BMW M4 Debuts at 2014 Detroit Auto Show

Every noteworthy car makes its world debut at a big auto show. For BMW’s first ever BMW M4 Coupe that show was in Detroit, this year. The 2014 Detroit Auto Show hosted the first appearance of the BMW M3 Coupe replacement model, introduced by high-ranking officials in a special ceremony.

The M4 is available for viewing at the COBO center in Detroit in two versions: Austin Yellow and Sapphire Black. Whilst the first paint was exclusively created for this new model, the latter is for the more traditional customers that don’t want to stand out as much.

The car actually looks a lot better in person than in any photo gallery you’ll find online. The Austin Yellow color really matches the black wheels and the golden brake calipers of the Carbon Ceramic Brakes hidden underneath them, an optional feature on the new Coupe. The CFRP roof is another instant eye catcher, whilst the interior was done in all-white with carbon fibre trims all over.

That’s not the only place where CFRP was used though, both for more performance and for weight-saving reasons too. The boot lid, for example, uses the same material, whilst the drive shaft is now made of one piece, offering the car higher revs and better overall acceleration response.

All the efforts in the weight department made the new M4 tip the scale at just under 1.5 tones, a drastic improvement over the car it replaces, with more power and a lot more torque (431 HP / 550 Nm) so it’s only naturally that it would also be faster to 100 km/h (62 mph) reaching the benchmark speed in just 4.1 seconds with the 7-speed DCT gearbox.
