The First Bearings Kart Race Takes Place in Romania

Hopefully, we 're witnessing the birth of a new extreme sport. And even if this doesn't spread around the world, we're positive there will be a lot of guys who will want to experiment the thrills of speeding downhill inches above the asphalt and with zero suspensions. The first official bearings kart race takes place this very weekend in Romania.

Such contraptions are timeless and are not restricted by borders or influenced by a nation's wealth because they belong to a child's creative spirit. And you know how this works...

Don't grow up, do not become a grumpy adult

It looks like some fellows just don't want to grow up and turn themselves into grumpy adults ridden with first-world problems, and that's awesome. We've already seen electric drift trikes and how cool these retro, yet high-tech creations are.

We also showed you the downhnill track at Rotorua in New Zealand and now it's time to introduce CarutLine, the first official bearings kart race, an event taking place in the city of Anina in south-western Romania. Carut (pronounced ka-roots) is Romanian for kart by the way.

The race is sponsored by a local bearings, belts and similar parts dealer, and this makes everything even funnier. So far the first edition is a local event, but it has solid chances to grow and attract other extreme sports enthusiasts.

Karts must be built by the racers themselves on race day

Willing participants can register for the 25 April race on the CarutLine official website. The karts must be built by the competitors on the very race day and must also comply with few technical specs. The maximum outer diameter allowed for the bearings is 90mm (3.5").

All racers are required to wear a crash helmet and protective gloves, and fair play must prevail in relation with other racers and race organizers.

With prizes in the guise of miniature bearings karts made of metal, this is as crazy as it gets. We can't wait for footage from the races!
