#F8, Fast 8, Furious F8, The Fate of the Furious, call it whatever you like, but the eighth installment of the Fast & Furious saga is not about the illegal racing scene. It is a wild departure from the first-ever Fast & Furious movie, yet it has a plot twist that will make enthusiasts compare it to the original.
SPOILER ALERT: Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel) joins the baddies in The Fate of the Furious, turning his back on his family, friends, and lover. At least that’s what the trailer suggests. When you think about it, Dom was a baddie in The Fast and the Furious, at least at first glance and from Brain O’Conner’s (Paul Walker) perspective. But whereas Dom joined the good guys at the end of the first movie in the franchise, nothing can say for sure what’ll happen with him at the end of the eighth movie. Maybe he'll become a monk, who knows?

(Yet another) SPOILER ALERT: Luke Hobbs (Dwayne Johnson) goes to jail. There, he meets Deckard Shaw (Jason Statham), the bad guy from Furious 7. As if that wasn’t a plot twist, these two become brothers in arms when they join Dominic’s former crew to get Dom back on the good guys’ side. Intriguing development, but this is the perfect recipe to making a quality action flick.

From the fast-paced trailer, we also learn that Cipher (Charlize Theron) recruits Dom for whatever reason, making him turn against his buddies. One figure who isn’t featured in the trailer for The Fate of the Furious is Helen Mirren, one of the most critically acclaimed actresses the world has ever seen. It’s also worth noting that she plays Magdalena, a former CIA agent recruited to help defeat Cipher and bring Dom back to Letty Ortiz (Michelle Rodriguez).

Directed by F. Gary Gray (Straight Outta Compton, The Negotiator, The Italian Job), The Fate of the Furious has all the right stuff to become one of the highest-grossing movies in 2017. Slated to be released on April 14, 2017, The Fate of the Furious is the second movie of the FF franchise not to feature Paul Walker. Oh, and another thing: the bad guys have a friggin’ submarine!

Family will be broken. Watch THE FATE OF THE FURIOUS trailer now. #F8 is in theaters April 14.
