The Evora, a Fat Lotus

The Lotus Evora made its way to the LA Show of 2008 and while it looks stunning, we haven't agreed on the type. It doesn't look that British, nor Italian, but it's like a small blend between the two and a bit of Ikea's minimalism.

All these things mean that the Evora is unique in its details and styling and it's designed to fit 2 adults in the front and 2 kids in the back. This means that you can take your 2+2 sports car to the circuit and teach your family the essential drifting techniques and that makes the Evora fun.

Power comes from a 3.5-liter V6 power-plant borrowed from Toyota producing 276 HP and a top speed of 160 mph, while acceleration from 0-60 takes 5 seconds. It is expected to return 30 mpg in a combined cycle, but with Lotus-proof handling you can go a long way while trying to induce illness to your 3 passangers.

The real party piece is the interior. If you are used to old Lotuses, this will blow you away, because it is all covered in leather, which ads weight, has a sat-nav, which ads weight, has air-con, which ads weight, a sound system which... you get the point.

The thing is that this Lotus is like a celebrity star that desperately tried to get slimmer by eating non-fat bad tasting food for 20 years, and then letting her loose in a McDonald's restaurant. The thing is that this might be able to upset the sales of the daddy of all-day supercars, the Porsche 911.

The Evora will be available with a manual transmission, but in 2010 an automatic will follow. Industry pundits say that this car will be twice as stiff as the Elise and there are news of a convertible.
