The Epic Giulia GTAm Sports Sedan Was Alfa Romeo F1’s Guest of Honor at Imola

Even though the Alfa Romeo F1 Team failed to score any points at Imola earlier this month, it did draw some attention by having a very special guest of honor in the pit lane. We are, of course, talking about the Alfa Romeo Giulia GTAm, the carmaker’s most powerful model ever.

Ahead of the Imola Grand Prix, Alfa Romeo drivers Kimi Raikkonen and Antonio Giovinazzi both posed alongside the track-focused sedan, which arrived wearing a definitive red livery. For those who don’t know, Alfa Romeo’s F1 drivers actually helped the brand’s engineers develop and fine-tuning the Giulia GTAm.

Unfortunately for the team, the Giulia didn’t exactly act as a good luck charm, as both Raikkonen and Giovinazzi finished outside the points at Imola. In fact, the Ferrari-powered Alfa Romeo C41 hasn’t looked particularly impressive this year at all, although it did nearly grab a point during the season opener in Bahrain, with Raikkonen finishing just 2 seconds shy of Stroll (P10).

Back to the Giulia GTAm, it’s about as spectacular of a four-door sedan as you can find. Its twin-turbocharged 2.9-liter V6 engine was updated to produce 533 hp (540 PS) instead of the 503 hp (510 PS) you get with the regular Quadrifoglio model.

You also get highly efficient aero elements such as the larger front splitter or the rear carbon fiber rear wing, plus genuine weight-saving measures like the carbon fiber hood, roof, front bumper, rear wheel arch inserts, titanium Akrapovic central exhaust, diffuser, and the 20-inch center-lock wheels (usually seen on race cars).

Furthermore, there are no rear seats in the Giulia GTAm, while the front ones come with racing harnesses. The dashboard, door panels, armrest and side pillars all use Alcantara extensively, whereas the side and rear window frames are made from Lexan, a unique polycarbonate resin used in motorsport.
