The Day This Female Driver Learned Screaming at a Car Doesn't Stop It, Brakes Do

How many times have you mistaken the brake pedal for the throttle? That's right, zero times. And why is that? It's because you treat driving with respect. You don't go out in traffic thinking "what's the worst that could happen," but trying to do your best.
Of course, your best might not be as good as somebody else's best, or the other way around. However, we all seem to get along in the end and find a way of making this thing we call "traffic" somehow work out for everyone. It doesn't always go as planned, granted, but those are just some minor misunderstandings or some unfortunate coincidences. For the most part, though, we do everything in our power to play by the rules.

And there aren't that many rules if you think about it. Right has the right of way, you go on green, stop on red and please, please watch out for those pedestrians. Then there are the speed limits, and that's about it. A continuous line means no crossing, a dotted one means you're free to do it, and when you see red or blue flashing lights, you better pull over and make way for the vehicle on a mission.

As simple as things might be, that doesn't mean we haven't all had our sketchy moments. I, for one, remember the first time I went out after getting my license. It was only out of sheer luck that I didn't rear-end somebody given the way I was driving and the promptitude of my car's braking system. Had I done it, the history of my driving would have looked a lot different. I got lucky then, but that doesn't mean I rely on it anymore.

This poor woman was neither lucky, nor careful or in control of what she was doing. The thing that startled her initially was a poor pedestrian minding her own business. Given they were in a poorly laid-out supermarket parking lot, it's hard to say if the woman was supposed to be there or not. What we do know is that the driver should have reacted differently.

Almost any other reaction - besides pulling out a gun and shooting the woman - would have been preferred. Instead, she slammed on the accelerator, probably thinking it was the brake, and didn't realize her mistake until four parked cars, including a small bus, were badly damaged. The screaming, she also found out on this occasion, did nothing to help either. A cooler head and more appropriate reactions, however, would have.
