The Day Tesla Designed an Eighteen-Wheeler for Space Hasn’t Happened Yet

Even though Musk himself doesn’t approve such projects, it doesn’t keep people from dreaming of a different Tesla world, sometimes just to carry on the legacy. This time, the work of Tesla and Space X have inspired exterior automotive designer Alex Baldini Imnadze to create a concept that I first thought is supposed to be used on the moon, but we’ll get into that later.

For now, let's talk a little about what we see, because anything more than this doesn’t exist at this time. You guys must understand, this design is fresh! So what is it that we’re looking at? It's a whole lot simpler than that. This design is to be used for the sole purpose of transporting Space X astronauts and equipment to and from work sites. It’s a transport 18-wheeler, or in this case, a 10-wheeler.

Because this dream vehicle is a two-part design, let's first talk a bit about the cab-like structure. Right off the bat, we can see that Imnadze really looked forward to the future of such ventures. It has only a mere resemblance to a semi.

We'll just start off by saying that if the word Tesla didn’t cover this thing, you’d think it was the next device to roam off-world planets. The only way we are brought back down to Earth a bit is by noticing the wheels.

But the wheels point out another aspect of the Space Truck, in that it shows up to the game with a very low ground clearance. This tells us that the vehicle will not be seen roaming around on highways or freeways, let alone alien terrains. Its design states that it would be used only on facility grounds and nowhere else. It could possibly be used to carry Space X astronauts in order to keep them contamination free while in transition to launch sites.

We can see the cockpit is raised a bit out of the frame and entry into the vehicle is made through the slanted panels on the sides where the word ‘push’ is featured. The front of the Space Truck shows us no engine components, much like any over-engine cabs, leading us to believe that all the drivetrain and other components are found under the cab.

I feel it is safe to assume that this vehicle, if ever to be manufactured, will most definitely be electric. Come to think of it, we see a couple of areas on the vehicle where we could find batteries, but this is just speculation. I am, however, curious to know how the hitch system functions, as we see no classic components. Maybe it’s magnetic.

Part two of the entire contraption is the trailer. This too looks very much different than any trailers we may have seen on Earth. We can see solar panels on top to help power some of the functions, but it's at the rear that the trailer really breaks away from previous designs. A vertical hatch lifts upward to reveal a space large enough to even carry rocket components.

Even though it looks hella cool, and futuristic, and flashy, I still don’t see why Tesla would be ready to jump the gun on this one, it might just be a bit impractical.
