If you're a fan of good ol' popular music, then you must've heard about British punk rockers The Clash. And this band's mastermind was a bloke going by the name of Joe Strummer, one of the most revered singer songwriters and frontmen in music history.
Any proper fan of the band and music critic alike will tell you that 1979's London Calling is arguably the best album of the genre although it incorporates elements of rhythm & blues, lounge jazz, rockabilly, reggae and ska. It's an explosive cocktail of timeless aural pleasure. Even the cover of the album was named by Q Magazine the best rock and roll photograph of all time, telling that "it captures the ultimate rock'n'roll moment - total loss of control."
And this author completely agrees with that. Seeing bassist Paul Simonon smashing his Fender Precision Bass against the stage at New York City's The Palladium is something very special, while the artwork's green and pink lettering is a homage to Elvis Presley's self-titled debut album. Heck, the album's cover was even chosen by the Royal Mail for a 2010 set of "Classic Album Cover" stamps.
So yeah, The Clash were pretty badass and are still considered to be one of the greatest acts ever, although the group disbanded in 1986 and Joe Strummer is no longer with us. Music history lesson over, now let's find out what's with this '63 Thunderbird previously owned by Strummer. Currently in the inventory of Beverly Hills Car Club, this T-Bird will be on the eBay auction block until August 21st, a date which coincides with Strummer's 62nd birthday. Bought by the musician in '87 for a mere $4,200, the racy blue machine was used by Strummer as the primary family car for his partner and two daughters.
It may be a bit rough here and there, the right quarter panel is slightly damaged and the 6.4-liter FE V8 is kinda rusty, but the seller tells that this sorry looking vehicle "is such a special car to me. I knew Joe Strummer as a boy growing up in London. Joe had an enormous love for American cars and I feel its serendipitous that this beautiful 1963 Ford Thunderbird is coming to us for sale." After 32 bids, the 1963 Ford T-Bird sits at $15,000 on eBay, which is not a lot for a car previously owned by one of the biggest rock stars ever.
