It really doesn't matter what you think of Citroen as a brand or of their cars, you simply have to love this Cactus M Concept. It's a feel-good car in its purest form and that's something very hard to come by lately.
From a rational point of view, almost nothing about this Cactus M Concept makes sense, which is probably the reason it doesn't come from a German manufacturer. It's got a canvas roof that looks like it was improvised out of a few strips of fabric, and that make-do attitude is carried over on the inside as well where the seats are covered in the kind of textile usually found on swimming suits and bandanas.

The concept is clearly built with the current C4 Cactus as a starting point, but some influences from the Aircross concept can also be seen. The interesting fact, however, is that the Cactus M isn't just a show car, but a fully functional vehicle.

The best proof for this is the fact Citroen is offering a full weekend with the car as the prize for a contest. Going by the name "Beach and breakfast", the contest is running in seven European countries - France, Germany, Italy, Spain, the UK, Belgium/Luxembourg, and the Netherlands - from 15 September to 16 October.

All you have to do to enter the competition (apart from living/moving in those seven countries) is explain in a few lines why they want to go on this adventure. Well, that should be simple enough. The winner of the contest will receive an exceptional weekend for two in a Cactus M on the seaside, sleeping under the concept car’s integrated tent and getting an introduction to some exciting sports. Given how the concept car has two surfboards hanging on top and the destination seems to be Portugal, you can figure for yourself at least one of those sports...

Back to the car itself, the Cactus M comes with the Grip Control function for that go-anywhere (and actually return in one piece) attitude. The roof's aspect is partially explained by the fact it can also turn into a tent, while the modular interior can (and will) provide accommodation for two.

To put it in a nutshell, the Citroen Cactus M is the kind of car we'd all want to drive, but none would actually buy. And that's exactly why it makes perfect sense as a concept and why it will stay that way. Still, we really envy the lucky guy who's going to win that contest.
