We had previously mentioned the Chery-Jaguar Land Rover partnership, with uncertainty still in the air regarding its feasibility. However, the rumors have been confirmed and it looks like the deal is likely to go forward some time this year.
It’s not just up to Chery and JLR to make the decision, with the strict Chinese government breathing down their necks and the various departments within the government giving their OK for the project. According to the Chinese media, Chery would supply the engines for the Chinese-made Land Rover or Jaguar cars, from their own ATECO range which includes V6s, turbocharged 4-pot and sub 1.0-liter units.

If the deal goes through, later this year, the venture is expected to churn out 130,000 units per year. However, the Brits have a lot of catching up to do, as the Germans are already a familiar name on the Chinese market.
