Bugattis are a lot of things, but “cheap” or “affordable” are not among them. Quite the opposite.
For under $1,000, you could maybe hopefully get to sit inside a Bugatti and breathe in the Bugatti air. Bugattis are among the most expensive cars in the world is what we’re saying, but there is one Bugatti means of transportation that is the very definition of “affordable.”
It has only two wheels, a small electric motor and a size hundreds of times smaller than a Bugatti car: the Bytech electric scooter. Introduced as a surprise and without much fanfare at this year’s CES 2022 (Consumer Electronics Show) in Las Vegas, the Bugatti-branded, Bytech-developed e-scooter promised to be the electric two-wheeler that would put all others to shame.
That and the fact that it were Bugatti logos made it easy to assume that it would also be Bugatti-priced. But, as it turns out, it is not so. SF Gate reports that a Bugatti e-scooter can be had for under $1,000 – at wholesale warehouse Costco, no less. The exact price is $919.99, to which you need to add the Costco membership, which is $60 a year. It’s still cheaper than the option of purchasing it from the official shop, where it retails for $1,200, with the caveat that Costco only carries it in black.
All jokes and the huge feeling of surprise aside, the Bugatti x Bytech e-scooter presents itself as perfect as a first- and last-mile solution. It’s not particularly fast (18.5 mph / 30 kph in Sport mode and 9 mph / 15 kph in City mode), but it has decent range (22 miles / 33.4 km in Economy mode), it’s foldable and it’s lightweight (35 pounds / 16 kg). It has the Bugatti logo and trademark color options, turn lights, brake lights and headlight, dual braking system, a lit floating deck and the “EB” monogram projection logo.
In short, even at this price, it doesn’t feel like a sell-out, but as a well thought-out alternative for that first and last mile of the daily commute. A bit flashy, too.
