The Arma dei Carabinieri, Italy’s military corps with police duties, have received two weapons of mass distraction from none other than Fiat Chrysler Automobiles. Chief exec Sergio Marchionne presented the Carabinieri with two examples of the Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio earlier today, cars that will take care of special assignments in Rome and Milan.
Two of those assignments involve escorting and transporting organs, two chores that fit the Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio like a glove. The Carabinieri's love for FCA doesn't end here, though. Tullio Del Sette, the general commander of the Carabinieri, has disclosed that the Corps will replace a part of their aging Alfa Romeo 159s with approximately 800 units of the Alfa Romeo Giulietta and Jeep Renegade.
Speaking at the event, Marchionne let it slip that his father served as a carabiniere and “the Corps has the values of my upbringing: seriousness, sense of duty and spirit of service. For me it is a privilege and an honor on behalf of FCA to hand over the keys of two Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio.”
Shortly after handing over the keys, a reporter asked Sergio Marchionne about a controversial episode in Formula 1. More specifically, he asked Marchionne about his opinion on the incident between Sebastian Vettel of the Scuderia Ferrari and Daniil Kvyat ofRed Bull Toro Rosso. “I don’t comment on what happened. It was an unfortunate incident, but that’s in the past. We had the opportunity to aim high for four races, but we did not succeed for various reasons. It is true that we have to keep working. There are 17 races left in the season.”
Carabinieri and Formula 1 aside, the Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio is the fastest four-door sedan to lap the Nurburgring. The “La meccanica delle emozioni” tagline fits it one hundred percent because a) it’s a thoroughly beautiful car; b) its Ferrari-infused V6 develops 510 PS (503 horsepower). Better still, the Giulia Quadrifoglio is a tenth of a second faster to 62 mph (100 km/h) than the V8-powered Mercedes-AMG C63 S.
