It’s not a spelling mistake, mind you, but rather a nickname. Inventing words? Maybe, but for a good cause. They say cactus could save your life in the dry dessert; luckily, we haven’t found ourselves in that sort of situation so far. However, it’s not just water the spiky plants contain, apparently, but also hidden cameras that tape motorists as they pass by on Paradise Valley, Arizona.
Therefore, they are called the cact-eye. No Eye of Sauron here, you Lord of The Rings maniacs, you. It’s just a mere CCTV camera that will tape drivers as they come and go on the familiar American road. These fake cactuses are there to look out for criminals and troublemakers, according to Fox 10 report, and shouldn’t be a subject of worry for those who feel their privacy was harmed in any way. Or should it?
“An officer driver through a church parking lot, a resort, drive down your street, and stolen license plate and cars of interest will automatically pop up on their screen in the patrol car,” said Mayor Scott LeMarr, according to the source. He added, that there’s no intention of sneaking these devices and that the expensive technology was not even paid with public funds.
In fact, “a benevolent citizen who wanted to support the police department and keep the crime rates at a historic low” donated these gadgets.
As to storing the information gathered, drivers need not to worry since LeMarr said the plan was to keep it for six months only. Call us paranoid, but the idea the Paradise Valley is paved with Big Brother’s eyes is not truly something we enjoy. It makes you think of all the other cameras taping without us knowing of them...
