Buick takes home this prestigious award for the second time, after winning it for the first time last year with the Avenir concept. EyesOn Design recognizes the best production and concept vehicle designs making their worldwide debut in Motor City.

Design has always played a large role in Buick’s rich history and recent success. The Avista concept has been a labor of love by the team of designers, sculptors engineers and talented craftspeople, including our UAW partners, who created this beautiful statement of Buick design. Avista represents the future essence of Buick design,” Bryan Nesbitt, executive director of Buick Global Design, recently stated.

Avista impresses with its uninterrupted body lines that stretch from the front of the car all the way to the back, resembling the design introduced by Buick on the Avenir and carried into production on the 2017 LaCrosse.

The interior completes the exterior, with flowing, uninterrupted lines, and features 3D-printed trim for the doors and the seats, as well as Buick’s IntelliLink system. The instrument cluster is replaced by a large screen, and the center console has its own touchscreen interface, separate from the large screen on the dash.

The Avista is a pretty big coupe, having a 110.7-inch wheelbase, so it needs a powerful engine to give its driver the sporty feeling they’re expecting. That’s why the car is powered by a twin-turbo V6 engine, pushing 400 horsepower to the rear wheels.

The American carmaker is well known for its concept cars, as it is considered to be the father of concept vehicles, having introduced its first one, called the Y-Job, in 1938. That particular car was Harley J. Earl’s, Buick’s Head of Design, daily driver.
