Back in 1988, the third generation 5er was launched, replacing the E28 model, after 6 years of development and research.
Now, on the brink of releasing the face lifted version of the current F10 5 Series, BMW is taking us back to the 80s to remember the so-good E34 that we see on the streets of the world even today.

For this occasion, one special man was brought in. His name is Ralph Langmeier and he was part of the team that designed the classic 5er, back in the mid 80s, as a student.

As he explains when creating this car, the team was working around one simple belief: "For the BMW enthusiast, the most important thing is to have an inline 6-cylinder and a sporty, simple design", as Ralph says.

The E34 model was available with one of the widest ranges of engines BMW ever created, from 1.8-liter 4-cylinder units (with 113 HP), to 6-cylinder ones and then up to even 8 cylinders with 340 HP.

The car could even be ordered with an all-wheel-drive system, the first one in its segment. Furthermore, the optional features were numerous and you could've configured your BMW to perfectly fit your every need.

Over the years, the E34 5er became a bestseller and it was such a successful car that even today we get to see a lot of them roaming down the busy city streets of our age, alongside the F10 model and other BMWs.
