The BMW E30 M3 and the Nissan Skyline GT-R Are More Alike than You May Think

Doug DeMuro is that guy who decided to take things into his own hands and buy a couple of cars considered “legendary” just to see if they really are. He had a Hummer H1, a Ferrari 360 Modena, and now he owns (and drives) a Nissan Skyline GT-R.
It is probably this last one that brought him the most headaches but also the purest form of driver envy. It is this car that he is using to make a point in the video below and we couldn’t agree more.

Placing it next to the BMW E30 M3 might infuriate some, but Doug does make some really valid points. Both cars are viewed as pinnacles of their respective eras and both cars are still highly regarded by enthusiasts.

The similarities go even further, both seemingly applying a recipe that proved to be successful over the 30 years since their release. Taking a regular car and enhancing it with wider wheel arches, more power and a wing (yes, it is important) is something some do to this day. Both the BMW and the Nissan were amongst the first cars to be built this way.

Of course, the Nissan is more powerful with its turbocharged engine and it’s also drastically faster, but in the end, we’d take the BMW E30 M3 over it any day of the week. Call us stupid, call us fanboys and greedy, but as Doug says, the Bimmer feels tighter and more nimble on any track and it will go up in value over the next few years, even more than it already has.

Bottom line, without the E30 M3 and the Skyline GT-R, we wouldn’t have cars like the E63 AMG (or any AMG, for that matter), RS4s and R-Line Volvos today in Europe and STIs coupled with Evos in Japan. Yes, thank God they came out when they did.
