Today, following the Geneva Motor Show presentation of the i3, i8 and Active Tourer Concept, BMW released a video on its Youtube Channel in which it explains how the 1 Series GT Active Tourer Concept works.
The new, front (partial) wheel drive car will have the best of two worlds: the long range and autonomy of a conventional petrol engine and the low CO2 emissions of an electric model.

The conventional engine that sits at the front of the car and powers the front wheels is a 1.5-liter 3-cylinder turbocharged engine that will also be used on the i8 Concept. This new turbo engine has very good fuel efficiency standards and an impressive, sporty sound.

The rear electric motor will power the rear axle and is based on the new BMW eDrive platform. Combined, the two engines deliver over 188 HP giving the Active Tourer the BMW sporty feel when needed. Furthermore, when only the electric motor is used, the car has 0 emissions and an autonomy of around 30 km, which is extremely practical for daily commutes around town.

The future car will also use the latest eDrive technology which actually allows you to choose the way you want to drive by using different modes like ECO, ECO PRO an COMFORT.

The combined fuel efficiency of this car will be (when using both engines) of around 2.5 l/100 km (94 MPG) and CO2 Emission levels of 60g/km making it, along with the new i3, one of the most fuel efficient cars of BMW and in the world.
