The seventh-generation Volkswagen Golf Variant has been revealed by the German automaker at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show.
Quoted as being more versatile and roomier than its predecessor, the new station wagon is 232 pounds lighter and, according to the Germans, its TDI BlueMotion version is the most fuel-efficient Volkswagen estate ever built.
Fuel efficiency for the 110 horsepower TDI is rated at an impressive 71.3 miles per gallon combined on the European Cycle, while CO2 emissions are as low as 87 g/km when the engine is mounted to a six-speed manual transmission.
There's also an all-wheel-drive Golf Variant 4Motion to make its debut in Geneva, with TDI Clean Diesel 105 and 150 HP engines, as well as a natural gas drive (CNG) TGI BlueMotion version.
The Golf Variant will hit the European market in August 2013, with no word yet on a US version.
