The 'Al Jolson' Packard Hits the Auction Block

Earlier this month, we were informing you of a Pontiac Plexiglas "Ghost Car", America's first full-size transparent car, which was to go under the hammer in Plymouth, Michigan next month. Now, RM Auctions have announced that another eye-catching lot will be included in the same sale, in the form of a celebrity Packard,  purchased new by famed American entertainer Al Jolson.

The example in question is a rare 1932 Packard Twin Six Individual Custom Convertible Sedan by Dietrich that was delivered new to Jolson for $6,600, and was virtually unseen for nearly half a century,

Born in Russia in the late 1880s, Jolson immigrated to America at the age of ten. With starring roles in 'Mammy' and 'Swanee', Jolson's outstanding singing, dancing and acting skills earned him the nickname 'The World's Greatest Entertainer', leading him to become one of the wealthiest men in Hollywood and affording him the opportunity to indulge his passion for fine automobiles.

The car is presented in perfect condition and very well-equipped, and is seen as a special ownership opportunity for discerning collectors. The vehicle is estimated to fetch between $950,000 - $1,150,000.

The RM Auctions' St. John's sale is to take place on July 30, in conjunction with the Concours d'Elegance of America at St. John's.
