That debate will go on forever and there’s no point on insisting on it. Bottom line is that MINI (or BMW) decided to go down this road and we have to take things as they are.

Along with normal questions surrounding the size of the new car and the powerplants it will be using, things that we’ve gone into earlier today, a lot of people will also wonder just how much will the 2 extra doors cost.

Well, according to early info, it seems like not that much. MINI will be asking on average, just €900 more for the 5-door model compared to the 3-door Hatch, depending on the version you go for.

Therefore, in Germany, the MINI One 5-door will start at €18,350, coming out fitted with the 1.2-liter petrol engine we know from the hatch, making 102 HP. The diesel alternative, the One D, fitted with a 1.5-liter 3-cylinder unit will set you back €20,300.

Going a step further, the Cooper model, fitted with the 1.5-liter 3-cylinder turbocharged B38 engine making 136 HP will start at €20,600, just €300 more than the One. The diesel Cooper D is €22,350.

The Cooper S variants are the most expensive at the moment, fitted with 2-liter powerplants. The Petrol version, making 192 HP and 300 Nm (220 lb-ft) of torque will start at €24,700, while the diesel Cooper SD will start at €26,250.

The US prices haven’t been announced just yet but they also should record a minimum increase over the 3-door alternative. Sales of the new model start kick off in October.
