The 2020 Ford Mustang R-Spec For Australia Was Penned By Ranger Raptor Designer

Described as “the first supercharged edition of Australia’s best-selling sports car,” the Mustang R-Spec for the 2020 model year is exclusive to the Land Down Under. Limited to 500 examples of the breed, the belly of the beast is the Coyote 5.0 complemented by the TVS 2650 roots-type supercharger from Roush and Ford Performance.

An engine plaque and serialized dashboard plate ensure the exclusivity, and the go-faster shift knob for the six-speed manual transmission brings the point home. Ford Performance scuff plates, R-Spec rear badging, tons of black detailing for the exterior, a rear spoiler, cat-back exhaust, and black lug nuts for the 19” wheels add to the visual drama.

Even the puddle lamps have been designed to project R-Spec onto the ground, and yes, the brawny pony comes standard with MagneRide suspension for great comfort and better handling. The side hockey stripes meet up at the front fenders, and the 5.0 badging on both sides signifies the displacement of the naturally aspirated V8 from the Modular family.

There are no official performance claims if you can believe such a thing, but the same supercharger-engine combination is good for 522 kW and 830 Nm of torque over in the United States. That’s 700 horsepower (710 PS) and 612 pound-feet, plenty of resources to light up the rear tires in a cloud of smoke.

Developed in collaboration with Herrod Performance of Melbourne, the styling of the Mustang R-Spec is primarily attributed to Dave DeWitt. He is the man behind the exterior design for the Ranger Raptor, an off-road truck that's only available with the 2.0-liter EcoBlue bi-turbo diesel with more than 200 horsepower. Four colors are available in total, starting with the Grabber Lime of the car in the photo gallery. Customers can also choose Twister Orange, Oxford White, and Velocity Blue for the paintwork.

The 2020 Ford Mustang R-Spec brochure specifies 98 RON for the gasoline and a fuel capacity of 61 liters while the fuel economy is listed at 14 liters per 100 kilometers. That’s 435 kilometers on a tank of high-octane dinosaur juice, which works out at 270 miles between fill-ups.
