The 2011 Jeep Compass, Yours in Britain for £16,995

The April 15th date with the 2011 Jeep Compass is fast approaching and in the UK, and the American rugged brand has announced pricing details ahead of the big market debut. Even though this is the first new generation Jeep to offer two-wheel drive versions, Compass still personifies the brand’s unique mix of free-spirited adventure, the authenticity of the original 4x4 and... vehicles that scare little children.

In the UK, the 2011 model will be available with a 2.2-liter 4-cylinder CDR turbo diesel which churns out 134 bhp or 162 bhp. The higher output variant provides 23 bhp more power than the 2.0-liter in the old version of the 4x4, so it's only natural that some 65 percent of buyers will go for diesels, according to Jeep.

The petrol engine lineup starts with a 2.0-liter and a 2.4-liter four-cylinder, both featuring the dual Variable Valve Timing technology with twin overhead camshafts. The smaller unit is paired up with a five-speed manual, while the 2.4-liter makes use of a CVT2 Continuously Variable Transmission. These two engine are expected to complete the 35 percent of overall sales.

A broad buyer spectrum, comprising the Sport, Sport+, Limited and 70th Anniversary trim levels, will cover a wide range of specifications. Demonstrating an impressive level of standard equipment, every model has automatic climate control, apart from the Sport which features manual air-conditioning.

The front seat passengers will sit in sumptuously padded bucket seats, covered in leather with accent stitching in the Limited and 70th Anniversary models, premium cloth in other versions. A six-way power adjustable driver’s seat and heated front seats are standard in the Limited and 70th Anniversary.

Finally, we get to the all important price aspect of the Compass equation - price. According to the official press release, "the new model builds on that principal with a wider range than ever before and prices stretching from £16,995 to £23,995 OTR."
