Some of the greatest ideas start out as a joke, and this legendary custom build is no different. You may have heard about it: the Pool Table Car, aka the rolling mancave that can do 100 mph despite the fact that it’s, well, a pool table on wheels.
The Pool Table Car is also one of the world’s most famous and, dare we say, iconic Chevrolet Monte Carlos, which makes it a perfect fit with autoevolution’s Chevrolet Month virtual party, which runs throughout November. So let’s have a closer look at this famous and outrageous build that, like many other awesome ideas, started with a joke of the “what if?” type.

The Pool Table Car is exactly what its name implies: it’s a 1999 or 2000 Chevrolet Monte Carlo converted into a rolling pool table, with extra amenities like a kickass sound system, a TV screen, a “bar” (fridge, more like it) and even a darts game. It’s detachable, it has a removable top and, according to owner Joe Fiscella, it’s a genuine chick magnet. It’s basically a mobile mancave, for fun on the go, whenever, wherever and with whomever.

Joe Fiscella runs the Triangle Billiards and Bar Stools shop, which sells a variety of billiard tables and accessories. Back in 2011, he was talking with a friend about taking part in a billiards game that was being held for charity and he joked about coming up with a way of taking it to the road. Fiscella then conceived the idea for a pool table car, which would serve as perfect advertisement for his business, while also offering countless fun opportunities.

To make the idea real, Fiscella went to Vini “Big Daddy” Bergeman, whom you might recognize from The Discovery Channel’s The Kustomizer and whose catalog includes builds like the world’s longest limousine, the world’s biggest motorcycles and even a Popemobile. Fiscella gave Vini seven days and $3,000 to complete the project, and they made sure to document it every step of the way, in the hope that a network might be interested in giving them a reality show. We can’t verify if this ever panned out, but you can see some of the footage shot in the videos at the bottom of the page. You can tell from the occasionally poorly-acted drama that they were really gunning for reality TV fame with this project.

The build still became famous, though. By 2015, it was already a celebrity on the custom scene in California, had gotten extensive coverage in the media and had attended countless auto shows, where it was showered with praise. The Pool Table Car was first introduced at the George Barris Custom Car Show in Culver City, California, but its build was far from the easy and short process Fiscella imagined.

For starters, the $3,000 soon ran out, as did the seven days. The project was eventually completed in one month but only because sponsors stepped in, since both Vini and Fiscella wanted it to be both a running car and a professional pool table. The 9-foot (274-cm) table was donated by Brunswick Billiards Corp., and the custom paint was also a sponsorship. Other sponsors opted for ad space on the side of the vehicle, when it would be finished.

This gave Vini enough of a budget and the extra motivation to go all out with the project. The final version features a detachable pool table in the back and is an actual, drivable and road-legal car that can top 100 mph (161 kph). When you slide out the pool table, the half-car sits on two rear wheels from an actual billiards table. Cornering is slightly difficult because of the added length, but otherwise, Fiscella swears this custom build is surprisingly easy to handle.

Other features include a battery-operated dart board, a top-notch sound system, a pop-up TV screen, a fridge, a leveling system for the table, and space for two passengers in the front. The interior is also fully bespoke and on theme, and the wheels and rims are custom. The roof is “portable,” according to all accounts, but there isn’t a single photo of the build with the roof on.

Not that this detail matters all that much. Fiscella says the Pool Table Car was an unexpected success, even getting him into one of the VIP parties that were once held at the Playboy Mansion. “Girls go crazy for this car,” he was saying in a 2015 interview (also available below), which sounds like sufficient validation, should all else fail.

The whereabouts of the Pool Table Car are currently unknown. Fiscella’s business hasn’t made a single mention of it since 2016, when it was still available for renting for anything between $200 an hour and $10,000 a month. Also around that time, they were planning on upgrading it by switching whatever it had of the Monte Carlo left in it with the front of a Chevy Camaro, Rolls-Royce or Bentley.

We’ve reached out to them and will update this coverstory if the car is still in their possession, hopefully with details on its current condition. Meanwhile, check out the videos of this iconic and quite surprising custom build, with bonus shots of a gorgeous model who has no idea how to shoot a ball and is predictably prone to puns.
