If you want to go on the proverbial wild side Lou Reed was talking about in a tune, the automotive equivalent to it is the hell-bent for leather 2016 Dodge Viper ACR and its wicked go-faster paraphernalia. Here’s a little warning though: it’s going to cost you 121,990 dollars.
The starting MSRP is $117,895, but when you add the destination and gas guzzler tax to the mix, the total is nigh on $122k. So we’re dealing with the most costly road-legal Viper to enter mass production, but does the leviathan sticker price reflect the car’s potential?
And then some! The hand-built snake is animated by a thumping great V10 motor with 645 rampaging ponies driving the rear wheels via a Tremec 6-speed manual. But raw get-up-and-go isn’t the focal point of the ACR. I don’t know how to soften the blow, but this variant of the Viper can pull 1.5 Gs in the corners.
The grip and traction of the rear-wheel drive chassis are enhanced by a carefully developed combination between ACR-specific tires, carbon fiber, suspension technology and aero treatment. As it’s often the case with high-performance cars these days, the straight line capability is complemented by ceramic brakes.
Vector in the 10-setting, double-adjustable Bilstein coil-over racing shock absorbers and unique race alignment to get 3 inches of suspension adjustment. We haven’t even got to the best bit about the 2016 Dodge Viper ACR yet. Opting for the ACR Extreme Aero Package, the aerodynamics are enhanced to deliver nearly 1 ton of downforce. One. Friggin’. Ton.
