Knowing your car is something every driver should follow as a simple rule, especially when talking about a performance vehicle. What can happen when you don’t do your homework? Sadly, it can all lead to the worst consequences, as it happened with 72-year-old James Rogers.
The Texan and his dog reportedly passed away on Monday afternoon after getting trapped inside the man’s car, a 2007 Chevrolet Corvette. It all took place in the parking lot of the Waffle House on Jimmy Johnson Boulevard in Port Artur, Texas.
According to KHOU, police are awaiting the autopsy result, but they’re not expecting suicide or any other reason to sit behind the ridiculous event. It’s all expected to be a case of death by exhaustion.
The saddest part about it all is that the man and his dog became trapped inside the ‘Vette after the battery was drained and the default (electric) door lock didn’t work. It seems that James was unable to call for help, since he had forgotten his phone inside the restaurant, where it had been left to charge.
The C6 Corvette comes with an emergency handle placed by the driver’s seat, but the man didn’t know about it.
Perhaps better signaling of the handle would’ve helped.

This isn’t the first case of a C6 battery drain death
Over the years, we’ve heard about four or five other cases of this kind, where drivers unaware of the emergency handled died after getting trapped in their C6 Corvettes. To the best of our knowledge, the C7 uses a similar system and perhaps this is a good opportunity for owners to learn about the system.Perhaps better signaling of the handle would’ve helped.
