Respected car collector and Texas businessman Sam Pack has decided to lower the number of his almost 500-strong car collection by putting 130 of them under the hammer at this weekend’s RM Auctions. Among some of the world’s greatest models, his collection also includes a rare 425-horsepower 1967 Shelby 427 Cobra, valued at more than $1 million.
The 77-year Dallas-area Ford dealer and antique car collector is the CEO and the president of the Pack Auto Group. He keeps his incredible collection in two buildings that make up the Pack Automotive Museum in Carrollton, Texas. According to Autonews, Pack literally lives with the cars daily, as the company and its 100 corporate employees all stay in one of the museum buildings. The museum is not open to the public, but is in constant use for special events including political and charitable fundraisers.

2 to 500 in 12 years

The millionaire businessman is obviously a guy that spends most of his time around cars, but it was only 12 years ago he actually started collecting them. “It has been in my DNA from Day One. I always had a love affair with cars”, Pack says. He claims the collection has gone from two vehicles to almost 500, but that the time has come for him to keep only as many as the two buildings can house.

Before buying his first dealership in 1980, Pack had an 18-year career as a branch manager with Ford Motor Credit Company, which is why this is also his favorite car maker. Among the several rare jewels going under the hammer, there will be a 1965 289 Cobra with a polished aluminum body purchased new by Carroll Shelby himself, a supercharged 1957 Ford Thunderbird F-Code, a 1960 Edsel Ranger Convertible and a 1959 Porsche 356 A 1600 S Convertible D.

A 1969 Shelby Mustang GT500 and a 1939 Lincoln-Zephyr

Among the beauties we liked most is a 1969 Shelby Mustang GT500 Convertible, one of just 75 finished in Grabber Yellow. Next to this one the 1939 Lincoln-Zephyr Coupe Custom sits just perfectly, especially that we’re talking about a 600hp V12 street rod.

But not all of the 130 cars are vintage collectables. In fact, Pack is also selling several concept cars, including the 2004 Lincoln Mark X Concept and the 2005 Ford Sport Trac Adrenalin Concept Pickup.

You can visit the Museum on Friday

In case you’re rather a modern type of car enthusiast you might want to know the collection also contains “one of the least-used” 1981 DeLorean DMC-12, a 2003 Ford Mustang SVT Cobra Convertible 10th Anniversary Edition and a 2006 Ford GT model.

In case you’re not really interested in joining Saturday and Sunday’s auction, you could check out the show held at the Pack Automotive Museum on Friday, which is the preview day. For $20 you can wander around and at least take a good look at this one rare collection.

PS: We were not able to put all of the cars in the photo gallery, but we did manage to save the ones we like the most. In case you want to get more details about each of them, feel free to visit the auction's website.
