Tesla Tops Consumer Reports' Ranking Once Again, and by a Hefty Margin

Information like this is quickly starting to lose its newsworthiness - you almost expect Tesla to place first in any customer satisfaction survey, and that's because the company really offers more than just a car.

When you buy a Model S or a Model X, you also get the feeling that you're becoming one of the first people who are trying to have a positive impact on this world by reducing their contribution to the human-generated pollution.

For some, that would be enough even if it meant they had to settle for a mediocre or even poor car. The fact Tesla's models are anything but is just bonus. Feel like Captain Planet and also move as fast as him? What more can you ask?

Of course, there are also those who couldn't really care less about pollution, but like the idea of a car that can set off like a rocket while also offering the comfort of a four-door sedan. They might be a minority, but make no mistake: they're just as intoxicated with Tesla as the first group we described.

Frankly, considering Consumer Reports' survey relies on the opinion of current owners, we're surprised Tesla doesn't register an even higher score. Not that 91 percent is anything but impressive, especially since the second place - taken by Porsche - is a full seven percent lower at 84.

To find the third place, you'll have to climb down a further seven percent to 77, where you'll find another Volkswagen brand, Audi. Speaking of Volkswagen, where do you think the German company that was recently shaken by the Dieselgate scandal sits? Last place, surely.

Nope, it's on a fairly decent 24th with 64 percent, only five percent lower than Mercedes-Benz and above such names as Jeep, Acura, Nissan or Fiat. Still, considering last year VW was 16th, it's still one of the most impressive downfalls in the chart.

At the end of the day, such surveys are extremely subjective, and owners tend to have very strong opinions over their vehicles - either loving them to bits or wishing they would break into bits. But, anyway, being rational about something that stirs such powerful emotions would be plain wrong.
